It’s Christmas Eve! The big day is almost here, and this song really taps into the excitement and anticipation. But first, we have to give some props to its singer, to whom we said goodbye this year.

Bobby Sherman was the teen idol for teens whose parents thought Ricky Nelson, let alone Elvis, was too controversial. He was squeaky clean and upbeat and the right kind of influence on the youth of the early 70s. He was even Marge Simpson’s first crush!

And all of that is fine with me; teen stars are sometimes how music lovers first fall in love with music, after all. And “Julie, Do Ya Love Me” is a great pop song! But Sherman also went on to train as an EMT; he would instruct other first responders in first aid and CPR, and he donated his salary. Sherman and his wife, Brigitte Poublon, founded a charity to provide food and educational opportunities for kids in Ghana.

Maybe there’s room on this Christmas Eve to tap into that same spirit, and put a little goodness into the world. And Bobby Sherman’s Christmas album is a fitting and fun soundtrack if you do. “Goin’ Home” is very catchy and a little bit anthemic, too; don’t be surprised if you’re singing along before the fadeout.
