We’ve come to the shortest days of the year, which actually appeal to me. I like how bleak it is. Quiet. Dark. Cold. I don’t know that I’d want months and months of it, like they get in, say, northern Alaska, but I don’t mind having my share each December, especially when accompanied by Bert Jansch’s spare but warm version of a carol from the 19th Century.
