25 Days of Holiday Songs 2024: “White Christmas” by Charles Osgood

When so much of the radio and TV landscape tried to get faster, busier, louder and more provocative, the longtime CBS News host and commentator didn’t follow; he kept his approach thoughtful, smart and welcoming. It was low key but it stood out, and that’s why so many of us were sorry to hear that he’d left us in January.

But this countdown is our chance to hear him again, playing and singing Irving Berlin’s classic in his signature style, and even including the often-excluded opening verse, which explains why the singer is dreaming of a white Christmas (because they’re in southern California!)

Thanks, Charles Osgood, for spending one more Sunday morning with us.
