25 Days of Holiday Songs 2025: “(It’s Gonna Be A) Punk Rock Christmas” by Dead Boys

How do all those wild and crazy first wave punkers spend December 25th? A 70s glam-rock side project called The Ravers had a few suggestions, though their version was lightly mocking punk at the holidays. The Dead Boys play it straight on, because why not have punk at the holidays?

This version is slightly meta, because as Mark Thorn sings about how “even Santa’s gonna be a Sex Pistol for a day,” there’s Glen Matlock, an actual Sex Pistol, playing bass. This recording also features the late great Clem Burke of Blondie on drums, rocking out right to the end. Pretty sure I don’t need to remind you to turn the volume way up for this one.
