Millard Fillmore’s Grave

Buried: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, New York
Died: March 8, 1874

See him: The conventional wisdom on Fillmore is that, as a president, he was mediocre. As a dead president, though, he does pretty well: Forest Lawn Cemetery is a gem of a place just off of Delaware Street, a key drag that’ll take you anywhere presidential in Buffalo.

While the tomb is not mediocre, it is pink. Very pink. And tall. A big pink obelisk. You could put this thing on Andy Warhol’s album cover for the Velvet Underground, right under the banana sticker.

And speaking of music, just on the other side of the creek from Fillmore’s tomb, is this guy:

Rick James gravestone

It’s the kind of tombstone you don’t bring home to mother.

Nonetheless, the fact that you can see a funk legend and a US president in the same cemetery is testament to America’s greatness. Check them out next time you’re in Buffalo.
