Today in 1850, the birthday of Sam Brinkley, who was a groundbreaker in the field of having a really really long beard.

Shaving dates back tens of thousands of years, and it's gone in and out of fashion more times than we can count. And for a time in 1945, there was an idea to replace razors with a series of hair treatments involving X-rays (!)

Harvey's still got a pretty serious beard going, but obviously he's more than a little upset that someone forced him to eat his beard under duress.
