25 More Days of Holiday Songs: “77 Santas” by Gayla Peevey

If you look up Gayla Peevey you’ll know her as the young singer who threw caution to the wind in the 1950s and asked for a hippopotamus for Christmas. But that wasn’t her only holiday song! She also sang this one about how her clueless mom insisted there was only one Santa Claus, but she saw them at every store she visited during the holiday season, and counted them all to be sure. If each of the 77 Santas were to drop a present off for her on December 25th, she’d made out pretty well – that is, if they could work out the logistics of getting all of them down the chimney somehow.
