This summer is also about smoothies

Carrot-apple connection

I’ve been getting interested in smoothies, partly to make for healthier breakfasts and partly to find new ways to use the ever-growing amount of fruits and veggies we’ve got round these parts.

We bought some apples at the farmers market last Saturday, and decided, on advice from the book Juices and Smoothies, to pair them with carrots, which we always seem to have around. The book said 2 carrots to one apple, but we bumped it up to 1:1 and added a little allspice and about 1/2 cup plain yogurt.

What it has, we like; what it needs… is still to be determined. To use an overused visual metaphor, it doesn’t yet pop. But we’ll get there. After all, the nice thing about working on breakfast ideas is that you can always try again the next morning…
