25 Days of Holiday Songs 2023: “Frosty the Snowman” by Burt Reynolds

This year marks the 50th anniversary of his solo album, “Ask Me What I Am.” Unfortunately for Burt, a lot of people felt the answer to that musical question was “not a singer.” (“The plus is because the title lets everyone make up his or her own joke,” wrote music critic Robert Christgau, who gave the album a grade of E+.)

But that makes it almost fitting that Burt went on to do this rendition of “Frosty the Snowman,” when he narrated the 2005 cartoon special “The Legend of Frosty the Snowman.” The singer/narrator for the classic, original “Frosty” special was Jimmy Durante, who was definitely acting more than singing. And that’s what Burt’s doing here. But he sounds like he’s having fun with it, and isn’t that what the holidays are supposed to be about? Ask him what he is: he’s BURT REYNOLDS.
