25 Days of Holiday Songs: “The Christmas Song” by Los Straitjackets

We’re officially in winter and the big day is just days away! We need to step it up a notch, and who better to help us do that than your favorite luchador mask-wearing guitar band and mine, Los Straitjackets. Their 2002 Christmas album is really special; the band manages to be rollicking on some tracks and a bit reverent on others, at least as reverent as Los Straitjackets are going to get, anyway. To me their version of “The Christmas Song” really captures the sweetness at the heart of the song, without being sappy or sentimental.

Plus, they’ve been touring and recording with the man behind yesterday’s song, Nick Lowe, which is about as great a combination as I can imagine!
