25 Days of Holiday Songs: “What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb)” from the “Star Wars” Christmas Album

Today is a big day for Star Wars fans, so today’s holiday song is from the Star Wars Christmas album.

You know that there is a Star Wars Christmas album, right?

This is completely separate from the Star Wars Holiday Special, mind you. That does have music, courtesy of Jefferson Starship and Bea Arthur and Carrie Fisher. But this is a whole album of Christmas tunes put together by Meco, who melded some of John Williams’ “Star Wars” melodies to a disco beat and sold millions of records.

“Christmas In The Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album” is hosted by C3PO and R2-D2, who meet up with some droids who are busy making toys on behalf of “S. Claus” for the holidays. Our two beloved droids do narrate the entire album, and Threepio even sings a few himself. Suffice to say music is one of the six million forms of communication in which he’s fluent.

The album deserves a much fuller treatment – I’m adding that to my to-do list for next year right now, by the way – so for now, just know that there are many wonders contained in its grooves, including this, the biggest musical galactic gifting conundrum of all time, “What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb)”:
