We’re getting closer to that time of year where there are lots and lots of parties happening, with lots and lots of food, and we’re likely to run into more and more paper plates.
They’re super useful, though they do lead to a lot of waste – which is why a new invention is getting some of attention.
It’s a paper plate that reduces waste… because it’s peelable.
Designboom wrote about this project, which comes from a company called Peelware.
The company makes plates with 20 paper layers, heated and pressed together.
There’s no glue and no chemicals.
The five bottom layers serve as a base, but the top 15 can be used one by one.
Use the plate once, and instead of throwing everything away, you peel off the top layer and it’s as if you have a whole new plate.
And you can repeat that more than a dozen times.
One 10-pack of plates could get you through like a year’s worth of dinner parties… at least in theory.
I guess we’ll have to see how the layers hold up, say, if you’ve got a plate full of really hot, oily onion rings, or fish, or fried chicken.
But it’s intriguing to think that we could reduce by 15 times the amount of waste from paper plates.
Peelware says it’s working on a broader product line, like bowls and cups.
The website’s futures list even includes “peel cutting boards” and “peel pots and pans”?!?
Today in 2115, the release of the Robert Rodriguez movie 100 Years.
Yes, I said 2115 – the movie was filed in 2015 but won’t be released for nearly a century.
According to Screenrant, the extra-long wait time is a reference to how long it takes to make a certain type of cognac.
I’m Brady, we do know that John Malkovich is in it!
