25 Days of Holiday Songs 2024: “Il est Ne, Le Divin Enfant” by Dr. John

Welcome to the best part of December, the best part of the holiday season, the best part of the year, even: a countdown of weird holiday songs on some guy’s blog!

This is the sixth year of this project, and while we haven’t even scooped up a cup’s worth of the ocean of festive music out there, already we’ve run across game show hosts, Wookiees, elephants, flaming Christmas trees, space aliens, glorious trainwrecks, beatniks, even William Shatner.

For variety’s sake, we toss a few classics into the mix, plus some overlooked holiday tracks that should be considered classics, like this one from Dr. John. The title of this one means “He is born, the Divine Child,” and the New Orleans horns in this track may make you feel joyous whether or not you’re a believer.

Come back every day this month for a new track. (Though I can only guarantee the quantity, not the quality.)
