New structure, or, “why tear it down if you’re just gonna build it back up?”

Second floor structure

Demolition is officially done, and so the contractor is putting in the base of the second floor, sort of a foundation. This is more elaborate than any of us expected, given how flimsy the support was for the old second floor. The guys are quick, though; they adjusted the building plans a tiny bit and were able to get right back at it.

Speaking of adjustments: I’m home this week with the baby, and listening to the saws and hammers and CLONK noises coming right above us is taking some getting used to. For me, at least – Owen sleeps through it all, while papa grimaces at every noise and considers pacing for hours a day on the off-chance that something should come through the ceiling and he and baby would have to make a run for it.
