Here comes the holidays, and some old friends

For the fifteenth time (!?!?!?!!), the Carlson Kids have taken their Christmas photos with their good friends Santa Claus and Mr. T.

I was starting to worry that we were running right up to the end of the holiday season to take this year’s photos, but then I looked at last year’s photos and realized that we were even later in 2024. Maybe next year we’ll do the photos a little earlier, and then a little earlier still the following year, until we’ll do a set of photos like a year ahead of time.

I’m kidding, of course. That supposes that we’ll still take these photos far into the future. How long does a tradition like this even run? Will the Carlson Kids still be interested in this when they’re old enough to drive? Or have their own jobs/houses/families? Will one of them turn to me some December and say, um, actually, Dad, I don’t think I want to do a photo this year? Will the stuffed Santa still be in good enough shape for photos by then? Or Mr. T, for that matter? The Mr. T doll has a few small rips in his fabric, and, oddly, his pants fall down constantly now. What do we do if the pants won’t go back up?!?

I guess we’ll have to cross those bridges if/when we come to them.

But that’s all for later. Today, the tradition lives on and everybody’s still getting a kick out of it. We’ll see what happens with next year’s photos, which hopefully we’ll take just under a year from now.
